I am primarily self taught--have been painting for most of my 60 years, I was in Honor Art in High School, I have since expanded my artistic scholastics with Nationally known Artists workshops (I have been taking them 1-3 per year since 1986).
My range of media include, watercolor, pastel, oil painting, charcoal, jewelry (twisted wire), lampwork beads, watercolor/collage, and last but not least china painting. I like to try everything.
I won the Peggy Award (Ft. Wayne, Three Rivers Ceramics Assoc.) 1975 & 1976, The Tibbits Arts & Crafts show in 1986, (Coldwater) best of show, The Lost Nation’s Art Show (Hillsdale County Arts Council) in 2007, and have won several other small awards over the years.
I have been teaching a china painting class for over 20 years (first in my home and then through Burnham Brook Senior Center in Battle Creek, I am now teaching at the home of one of my students in Marshall, my small studio here in Allen, MI, and at the Senior Center in Coldwater. My classes now include watercolor (my current favorite), I’ll always love the China Painting and Pastels (my previous favorite, which has been on the back burner for a couple of years), I will be setting up classes in pastels and oils if anyone is interested.
I have given several small workshops through the Art Center of Battle Creek in previous associations. My club memberships include, South West Michigan Watercolor Society (and prior to that was a member of Kalamazoo Area Pastel Society, now no longer in existence), the Battle Creek Society of Artists and the Hillsdale Art Guild. I have exhibited at the Gallery in Battle Creek (Through the Watercolor Society, which is not in business now), the Art Center of Battle Creek, and the Kalamazoo Institute of Art. I am a member of Arts & Industry and have a slot on their web site under Stonehaven Arts & Crafts Studio.
I=ve been accepted in Several art shows, Ella Sharp Art show in Jackson, Carnegie Center for the Arts in Three Rivers, Art Center of Battle Creek, The Krasl Art Center in St. Joseph, MI., The Tibbits Arts & Craft Show in Coldwater and several small shows in the Kalamazoo/Portage area while I belonged to the Kalamazoo Area Pastel Society
I also joined the Co-Op gallery, Open Door Gallery in Sturgis. At this time this is the only gallery association I have, but, I intend to investigate getting into at least one other gallery in the near future.
